Mustang Week 2012: Autocross and Oval Track

Wednesdays events were another huge attraction. If you are on the fence about coming to Mustang Week 2012….get in your Mustang get here ASAP. The turnout is amazing. There are a lot of great people here. We continued our interviews, filming and photos all day long. If you see myself or any member of the Latemodel Restoration crew walking around make sure you stop us and chat. We are having a blast and we want to try to meet all the Mustang Enthusiasts at Mustang Week.

Wednesdays events started out with Autocross. By far this was one of the largest events. I think almost everyone that came into the Myrtle Beach Speedway took a turn on the autocross. We gave gift cards to the fastest autocross times that were not posted by professional drivers or sponsors’ cars. Congrats to #12 David Wooldridge and #96 Chris Dufresne on winning a $50 gift card! Also congrats to the Gateway Classic Mustang, their yellow Mustang absolutely dominated the autocross course with constant low 30 second times. As for the Latemodel Restoration crew, this was the first Autocross course we have ever attempted….maybe we need to stick to the road racing course and drag strip. We took out a few cones….sorry to the guy who went after us.

Vaughn Gittin Jr also put on an amazing drift session on the oval track. He absolutely destroyed a set of tires in his 2013 Drift car. This event left most people with a need for speed so the next event of the night was Hot Laps on the oval track. This allowed you to make 4 laps around the oval track at high speeds. This section was a lot of fun. We got up to some very high speeds in Project High Impact thanks to the Ford Racing/Whipple supercharger. We also took advantage of the Ford Racing suspension and Nitto performance tires.
