Project Six Appeal: Stage 1

Project Six Appeal
Project Six Appeal

As some of you know all of us Mustang nuts around here have caught a bit of V6 Mustang fever over the past couple of months. If you have followed our blogs so far, you’ve seen our rental 2011 Ford Mustang V6 3.7L  on the track at Texas World Speedway, our install blogs on the BBK Cold Air Intake, our Dynolicious Blog all pushing the new Mustang V6 platform as far as we could and also the introduction to our latest project “Six Appeal”. I know some of you out there are still wondering why in the world we would choose a 2011 Mustang V6 as our new project car. Simple answer to that question, the cars are a blast to drive, they present an awesome 305HP 3.7L V6, the well known 8.8″ rear end with a traction-lok differential and dual exhaust with a true x-pipe from the factory! Not to mention they still have great looks and awesome fuel mileage to boot.

After much consideration and researching, I purchased a new Ingot Silver 2011 Ford Mustang 3.7L V6 6-Speed manual to start our research and build a fun, street / road race machine. Needless to say, I was all about getting some mods on the car ASAP! We had the oppurtunity to sponsor the MCA Wild West Pony Show in Mesquite Texas on April 9-10th and figure what better way could we bring some attention to the new V6 Mustang than to completely transform one in front of hundreds of Mustang enthusiasts at the show. After only having the car for 3 days and about 200 miles on the odometer, we loaded the parts and headed to the show! Follow along as we completely make over my new Mustang V6 into great daily diver and a serious on track contender!

As you can see we started wit a base model Mustang with pretty much no options at all. This was done to show just how much of a difference you can make to one of these new V6 Mustangs with just a few aftermarket parts and end up saving yourself quite a bit of money leaving the dealership lot. My first impression for the car was, well it is a plain jane Mustang, but I was pretty surprised when I got behind the wheel. The car ran great for what it is and even got a third gear bark (with 2.73 gears)on my test drive . So needless to say I was ready to put some parts on my new Mustang.

When we arrived at the Wild West Pony Show on Friday afternoon, we quickly set up shop and got ready for an early morning on Saturday to start the build. We also put our 1993 Cobra, 1995 Cobra R, our sales managers 2011 Grabber Blue 5.0L Brembo package car and our 2011 Kona Blue Mustang RTR #023 on display for people to check out while we were tearing the new V6 Mustang apart. We also posted a schedule of events that would take place on Project: Six Appeal as the day progressed.

By now, I am sure you are all wondering what we had in store for the new 2011 Mustang V6. Well, I guess we can’t leave you hanging on any longer……

First up on the list was a 2011 Mustang V6 Ford Racing M-FR3-MV6A Handling Pack. This kit includes everything you need to completely transform how your Mustang handles. It includes a set of performance Ford Racing M-18000-A Struts and Shocks, Ford Racing M-18183-C GT500 Strut Mounts, Ford Racing M-5300-N 1.25″ Lowering Springs, Ford Racing M-20201-F Strut Tower Brace, Ford Racing M-5490-C Front and Rear Performance Sway Bars, along with all new urethane bushings and bump stops for a solid and long lasting installation.

We also included a Ford Racing M-4264-A Adjustable Panhard Bar, Ford Racing M-2300-S Brembo Front Brake Package and to finish off the suspenion, a set of (4) 2012 Ford Racing BOSS 302 Laguna Seca 19X9″ Wheels wrapped in Nitto NT555 275/35-19′s.

Now you may be wondering where all the “Go parts” are in this list, well here ya go……

We planned to start the performance mods with a set of BBK 1778 Long Tube Headers and a BBK 1461 High Flow Catalytic Mid-Pipe, along with a pair Magnaflow Axleback Mufflers to finish off the exhaust. Moving to under the hood we included a JLT Cold Air Intake, followed up with a 93 Octane Blow-By Racing Tune via an SCT SF3 Handheld Programmer. To finish off the engine bay we also threw in a Ford Engine Cover designed specifically for the new 3.7L V6 Mustang.  Early saturday morning we started to lay all the parts out to begin the build…..

As you can see, we had our work cut out for us for the weekend ahead. Follow along on “Project: Six Appeal Part 2″ to see the full suspension, brakes, and wheel and tire kit installation! Coming Soon!
